Unsure where this came from, if not the palsied hands of the good Lord himself.
Simple premise: Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” slipped from 45 to 33 rpm. Nothing more; no studio trickery, no trip hop drum breaks. The guitar lopes back in and around itself. The bass becomes elastic, hot rubber. The violin stabs become sustained cello lines. The backing choir’s split harmony rattles around, slinking ghostly into the corner. And most importantly, Parton’s once-frantic vocal is transformed from bubblegum country scrawl into something approximating field holler reverence.
im bored reblog and add a photo of the grocery chain you grew up with:
which got bought by Giant Eagle
I had two.
I’m also adding two:
Miss U, Skaggs Alpha-Beta/Skaggs Albertsons.
theres like 6 of these total
We had 3 different grocery chains where i grew up, shop n’ save (later became Hannaford), shaw’s and market basket
Apparently it’s an international franchise?
We used a few different ones but Gristedes was closest, after it opened in like 1988. Before that it was Sloans and Red Apple, neither ofnwhich exist anymore I think. They’re all NYC Specific groceries as far as I know. Oh and also Zabars.
Wonderful small family grocery chain in Massachusetts. And as my husband often comments, worst name for a grocery store when said aloud. *sighs* Seriously, tho, they were awesome.
Here’s a flash of pre-Velvet Revolution (Czecho)Slovakia and the only chain in existence at the time: PRIOR. Now a TESCO, the building’s still the same, the contents and prices wildly different.
Added three chains that I’m surprised haven’t made the list yet. Also, stores with an IGA logo are not necessarily chains, they just use Independent Grocer’s Alliance as store support – including IGA “store brand” products that make it easier for small chain and one-off stores to market discount groceries. Same thing with stores that supply ShurFresh or Best Choice or other type brands.
Plus we could get Shuri supplying her with ridiculous gadgets, and her constantly giving reports to Okoye and the rest of the Dora Milaje, while T’Challa tries to calm his nerves and not freeze every time they do whatever Shuri’s version of Skype is.
Blackfeet Nourish has been providing food for the Medicine Bear Shelter and Blackfeet Food Bank for more than six years. The month of February has been grueling. Blackfeet [Nation reservation] has been hit by blizzard after blizzard with hurricane-force winds. Many people around Blackfeet Nation are both trapped in their homes and trapped out of their homes, in shelters, and other people’s homes.
100% of the donations will go to food for the Blackfeet Nation and dispersed [by] the shelter and as directed by Blackfeet Tribe’s Incident Command Center.

Reminder: this was only 58 years ago. Not only is Ruby Bridges (and most of the other children involved, on either side) still alive, many of the adults who threw rocks and beat up people and made death threats are also still alive. This wasn’t that long ago.

Did Dodge seriously just use MLK in their super bowl commercial? Lol the audacity. Besides the fact that he was staunchly anti-capitalist and would never have allowed the use of his voice for profit (and I seriously doubt anyone in his estate gave the go ahead), the commercial has to be NFL approved first. You know, the NFL that punished Kaepernick and other players for kneeling during the anthem? As soon as I heard MLK’s voice in that commercial I was red with anger.
From later in the sermon:
“Now the presence of this instinct explains why we are so often taken by advertisers. You know, those gentlemen of massive verbal persuasion. And they have a way of saying things to you that kind of gets you into buying. In order to be a man of distinction, you must drink this whiskey. In order to make your neighbors envious, you must drive this type of car. (Make it plain) In order to be lovely to love you must wear this kind of lipstick or this kind of perfume. And you know, before you know it, you’re just buying that stuff. (Yes) That’s the way the advertisers do it.”
“But very seriously, it goes through life; the drum major instinct is real. (Yes) And you know what else it causes to happen? It often causes us to live above our means. (Make it plain)It’s nothing but the drum major instinct. Do you ever see people buy cars that they can’t even begin to buy in terms of their income? (Amen) [laughter] You’ve seen people riding around in Cadillacs and Chryslers who don’t earn enough to have a good T-Model Ford. (Make it plain) But it feeds a repressed ego.”
